WHAT IT FEELS TO BE IN CAMPUS,THE "SMALL HEAVEN " PRAISED IN THE VILLAGE.

By Oscar Ochieng Ochieng

What comes into your mind when you hear someone mention the name UNIVERSITY?
Well this is the place I wanted to be most after my highschool education! I tried my best just for me to get to this "small heaven" that every parent it the village mention to their kids immediately you join form one.

My dream of joining this small heaven shone after I received an SMS from the KUCCPS congratulating me for being among those selected to join University by September 2018.what made it more interesting was that I was to join a campus located at another dream City, Mombasa! How great was God that He had to answered my prayer and added a bonus on it. Actually I changed my normal Swahili talking and was now trying to imagine my life in Mombasa and I waited impatiently for that date 3rd of September 2018 when I would be officially a "comrade."

Days and nights went by and finally it was on 1st of September 2018 my second trip to Mombasa but with a different mission, to be admitted at Technical University Of Mombasa! Actually I was very eager to get to this City where I would be spending almost four months before breaking for holidays. Several plans were running across my mind especially on how I would  be swimming evry weekend at the coastal beaches

The trip was very long and at last we got to Mombasa City. The admission process was very smooth as I was among the first students to be admitted and now I was officially a "comrade"
I got a place within the student hostels where I would stay for the next four months. We were never allowed to prepare any meal within the hostel and I remember my first night in campus I almost went to sleep without taking super since I wasn't used to eating at the restaurant and to make matters worse I never knew a thing by the name "MESS" so as I was walking around the institution I accidentally came across a kiosk-like structure at which I got myself some milk and "KDF" as my super.

The only Friend that I had met was Pascal who again found himself being my roommate at the hostel. We were very innocent Freshers and you could tell by only looking at our tiny muscle less bodies as we walked around the campus.
The second day our room was full and now we were four of us but one person, Zeddy from Homa bay changed our lifestyle especially when it came to meals by discovering where the Mess was located and for the next one week we became members of the "Mess society" where we would take all our meals from breakfast to super. A plate of rice and beans would only cost 15shillings but Zeddy on the other hand preferred a plate of rice with beansoup which only costed 10 shillings and he would be happy to be saving the other five bob meant for beans daily.

Several days went by and now it was time to go for lessons after the orientation process. This is where I made several friends whom somehow changed my lifestyle completely to the kind of life I'm living to date. This is where a special "crew" by the name Bro code was found.
The crew comprised of three Luos and one Luhya, Pascal who had to fit in and somehow got used to our way of living as Luos!
The first semester was full of fun and we enjoyed it by maximizing the opportunity we had to "know more" about this small heaven down on earth.

During this first semester I came to know about bashes and we would party during the weekends though not for every weekend. This first semester was actually the turning point in my life as I learnt different new things that I had not imagined before.
Now it was my second semester of the first year in campus and now that I had already gotten a clue of what this life tasted like , I was now waiting for those beautiful ladies who we were promised by our highschool teachers that they will be running after us immediately we set our foots in the campus. Believe you me I'm in my second year and I'm still waiting for at least one to come chasing me.

This is my second year in Campus and it feels like I have been here for decades. I'm now used to this life as if I've been here for the rest of my life. But there is one thing about this life. You just have to know what you want and choose your friends wisely. Don't do something because a friend is doing it. Know your worth as a person. Don't be an option. Know your position in people's lives and above all Know God.
